La Caldera

La Caldera is the capital of the departments of La Caldera in Salta Province in northwestern Argentina. It is located 25 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Salta and can be reached via the Ruta Nacional 9. In the classification of municipalities in the province it belongs with 2261 inhabitants, the communities of the second category.

History

The place is located on Camino del Alto Peru, a major in the 16th to 19th century trade route between Buenos Aires and Lima.

Culture

The local landmark is the on October 26, 1969 inaugurated, built by the artist Juan Carlos tucumanischen Iramain Cristo Redentor. The 26-meter- high statue is located on the outskirts of the town on a wooded hill.

Tourism

With its built in the 17th century Jesuit chapel, the colonial houses and the rest by its location off the Ruta Nacional 9, the place is a popular destination for weekend excursions grill. In addition to the Cristo statue especially of the five kilometers to the dam Campo Alegre is one of the destinations.
