La Caletta

La Caletta is a district of Siniscola in the Province of Nuoro in the Italian island of Sardinia.

Description

The place is located 50 km south of Olbia, 56 km north-east of Nuoro and 7 km north-east of the main town Siniscola. It is located on the east coast of Sardinia. 10 km known long white beach of La Caletta which reaches to Santa Lucia.

Besides fishing, the inhabitants live mainly from tourism; during the holiday period to hold up to 10 000 people in La Caletta.

The name is derived from the Italian Caletta Cala or caletta = small bay. It means a small, protected from the wind or harbor a small bay. The ending - etta serves as a diminutive form and is often found in city names from the Mediterranean.

The inhabitants call themselves Calettiani.
