La Chaumusse

La Chaumusse is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Chaumusse is located on 884 m above sea level. M., about 18 km south of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the vast plateau of Grandvaux, at the edge of a moor sink southeast of the forest heights of La Joux Derriere.

The area of ​​10.62 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau of Grandvaux ( average altitude of 900 m. M. ). It shows only slight differences in relief and is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. The area is drained by a creek to the north- east to Lemme. This forms the eastern boundary of the municipality. They first flows through a wide alluvial plain, and then traverse the chain of Prélet in a gorge-like breakthrough. The northwestern boundary of the plateau mark the wooded knolls of La Joux Derriere ( 962 m above sea level. M. the highest peak of La Chaumusse ) and Bois des Assiettes (939 m above sea level. M. ). The area of La Chaumusse is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

History

Since the Middle Ages La Chaumusse belonged to the territory of the Abbey of Grandvaux, which was merged in the 14th century with the abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 371 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Chaumusse one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 340 people were still counted ), a slight increase in population was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Chaumusse was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including a member of the eyewear industry. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.
