La Chaux -des- Breuleux is a municipality in the district of Franches- Montagnes in the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

Geography

La Chaux -des- Breuleux lies on 1'016 meters above sea level. Level, 5 km south-east of the district municipal seat Saignelégier (air line). The village is situated at an altitude of Jura plateau of the mountains free (French Freiberge ), west of the peat bog La Tourbière.

The area of ​​4.1 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating plateau of the Jura plateau on which boggy, usually above ground endorheic valleys with peaks of limestone alternate. In the north, the area extends up to the height west of Chaumont, with 1,088 m above sea level. M. is the highest point of the municipality. Population

With 87 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) La Chaux -des- Breuleux is one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the 85.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking and 12.2% 1.0 % speak Dutch ( as of 2000). Since 1920 (then 211 inhabitants), the population of La Chaux -des- Breuleux has halved.

Economy

La Chaux -des- Breuleux is a predominantly agricultural village embossed with dairy farming and cattle breeding. Outside the primary sector jobs are scarcely available. Many workers are therefore commuters and work in Les Breuleux or in Tramelan. In the 19th century watches were manufactured in La Chaux -des- Breuleux. Until 1966, was stabbed in La Tourbière peat, since 1975 the moor is a nature reserve. History

The town was first mentioned in 1379 as La Chaux. He belonged to the pen Saint -Imier, La Chaux -des- Breuleux 1528 of Les Breuleux as a fief handed. The village was part of the free reign the mountains covered by the prince-bishops of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 La Chaux -des- Breuleux belonged to France and was initially part of the département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura. On June 12, 1926 several houses were destroyed by a tornado that also destroyed the neighboring village of Les Breuleux.
