Chavanette is the name of a mountain pass ( Pas de Chavanette ) between Champéry ( Switzerland ) and Avoriaz / Morzine (France ) and a steep ski slope on the east side of the pass.

Pass Description

The Pas de Chavanette ( 2,144 m above sea level. M. ) is a foot crossing over the boundary chain of French and Swiss Alps. It connects the Alpine area Planachaux -Les Pas ( Champéry in the Val d' Illiez ) in the east to the alpine area Avoriaz ( now famous as a ski resort Morzine municipality ) in the west. The name comes from the Alp Chavanette, which is 300 meters below the pass on the west side.

In winter, the pass is one of the transition points between the French and Swiss parts of the cross-border Portes du Soleil. It is operated with two parallel ski lifts on the west side and a chair lift on the east side.

Description of the ski slope

(Also called " Mur de Chavanette " or " Swiss Wall " ) The Chavanette is a mogul field on the east side of the Pas de Chavanette in the ski resort of Champéry / Portes du Soleil. It is notorious for its difficulty (80 % average slope in the upper part, not because of the slope with snow groomers präparierbar, even with the winch it would be too steep). Less experienced skiers who use the transition at the Pas de Chavanette, drive down to the east side of the chair lift.
