La Citoyenne

La Citoyenne (French for " The Citizen ") was a newspaper for women's rights in France.

It was published bi-monthly from 1881 to 1891. Founded as the newspaper of Hubertine Auclert, supported among others by Maria Deraismes, Léon Richer and Marie Bashkirtseff.

Main focus of the publication was in the Civil Code established legal discrimination of French women. La Citoyenne compared the living conditions of women in other countries and in the French colonies with those of women in France and introduced legislation in question, the oppressed, the entire female population. The La Citoyenne represented a radically egalitarian feminism and is despite its short existence to this day as one of the most important organs of the French women's movement.
