La Cocha Department

The Department of La Cocha is located in the south of the province of Tucumán in northwestern Argentina, and is one of 17 administrative units in the province. It is bordered to the west and north by the department of Juan Bautista Alberdi, on the east by the department of Graneros and to the south and west by the province of Catamarca.

Population

According to the last census had the Departamento La Cocha 17,683 inhabitants ( INDEC, 2001). One estimate of the INDEC from 2005, according to the number of inhabitants has risen to 18,356.

Economy

In the department of La Cocha dominate agricultural activities, especially the cultivation of tobacco and soybeans.
