La Creuse

La Creuse is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Creuse is located at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, 6 km east-southeast of Saulx and approximately 15 kilometers east-northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in the valley of Colombine, between the heights of the Bois de Vaugirard and the Bois de Venet.

The area of ​​5.04 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside between the basin of Saulx in the west and the level of Lure in the east. From east to west, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung Colombine, which provides for the drainage to Durgeon. The Talniederung is on average 290 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. Agricultural land use predominates here.

Flanked the valley on both sides by relatively steep slopes that lead over to the adjacent wooded heights: in the south the Escloupe ( 355 m), in the southeast of the Bois de Venet ( to 390 m), to the east of Grand Bois Communal ( 368 m ) and on the opposite side of the valley in the northwest of the Bois de Vaugirard. With 412 m is reached on this plateau, the highest peak of La Creuse. In geological- tectonic terms, the terrain consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, also limestone comes to light from the Middle Triassic.

Neighboring communities of La Creuse Adelans -et- le -Val -de- Bithaine in the north, Genevreuille in the east, the south and Velleminfroy Pomoy and Châtenois in the West.

History

The place name derives from the old French word cruèse ( ravine narrow valley ). In the Middle Ages La Creuse belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Faucogney who abandoned the field to the monastery Bithaine. Meanwhile monks reclaimed the land arable and founded a dairy farm ( Grange de la Creuse ), which was the origin of the settlement. Together with the Franche -Comté reached La Creuse with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today La Creuse is a member of the comprehensive 17 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Saulx.

Population

With 75 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Creuse is one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 203 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s. In recent years, the population increased again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Creuse is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Some employed persons are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns in the area and in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Pomoy after La Chapelle- lès- Luxeuil. Another road connection with Velleminfroy. By municipality, the railway line runs from Belfort to Vesoul. The nearest train station is in Creveney.
