The nuclear power plant La Crosse (English La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor, LACBWR ) is a decommissioned U.S. boiling water reactor in Genoa, Vernon County. It takes its name from the southern 27 km of the reactor in the town of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

History

The nuclear power plant was built in 1967 as a demonstration power plant La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor. Funding for the project was pro rata by the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC ) and the Dairyland Power Cooperative (PDC). In 1973 the power station became the fully owned by Dairyland.

In April 1987, the LACBWR, who had become uneconomical due to the small size of the plant was shut down. The conversion into the safe enclosure, in the U.S. SAFSTOR as safe storage, abbreviated, took place on 7 August 1991.

Currently, the partial degradation of the system is. It is planned to store the spent fuel on site until a repository is available. The approximately 310 -ton reactor pressure vessel was dismantled in May 2007 and brought for disposal to Chem- Nuclear in Barnwell, South Carolina.
