La Demie

La Demie is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Demie situated at an altitude of 315 m above sea level, about 4 km south of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on an exposed south-east slope in the hilly landscape, which stretches to the southeast between the valleys of the Saone in the northwest and Ognon.

The area of ​​6.26 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the area hills south of Vesoul. The central part of the area is occupied by a trough, which is on average 280 m. It has a width of about 1.5 kilometers and opens north-east to the Valley of Colombine. Here predominant agricultural use. From the trough, the municipality's area extends to the northwest on the slopes of the Demie up on the adjoining heights: Bois du Tilleul in the north, Croix de Cassini ( with 447 m the highest peak of La Demie ) in the north- west and the Bois des Planchettes in the West. The area consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous beds of Middle Jurassic time. On the whole municipality there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground.

Neighboring communities of La Demie are Navenne in the north, Quincey in the east, Neurey -lès -la- Demie and Vallerois - Lorioz in the south and Échenoz la Méline in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the municipality has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Is first mentioned La Demie already in 1073rd At this time there were three villages, La Demie -la -Cote, La Demie la Millotte and La Demie, the only one that exists today. In the Middle Ages La Demie belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Attractions

The church of Saint -Remy shows different style forms: The Gothic chancel dates from the 16th century, the ship was built in the 18th century, and the portal is decorated in flamboyant style. Population

With 149 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Demie one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 160 people were still counted ), a decline in population was recorded after a temporary reversal of the trend since 1982 again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Demie is still a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the larger towns of the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Quincey after Vallerois - Lorioz. Further road links exist with Navenne and Neurey -lès -la- Demie.
