La Ferté-sous-Jouarre

La Ferte- sous -Jouarre is a commune with 9222 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ). The city is located about 60 km east of Paris.

Management

La Ferte- sous -Jouarre belongs to the department of Seine -et -Marne in the Région Ile- de -France. The town lies at the mouth of the River Petit Morin at the Marne and on the border of Brie and Champagne.

During the First World War in 1914 and 1918, heavy fighting took place in the city. Because of the exemplary conduct of its population during the German occupation La Ferte- sous -Jouarre in 1921 awarded the Croix de Guerre.

Since 1992 exists in Marne- la- Vallée about 20 km east of La Ferte- sous -Jouarre the theme park Disneyland Resort Paris.

Marie Richard ( born June 22, 1944 in Budapest) was from 2001 to 2011 Mayor of the town of La Ferte- sous -Jouarre. The politician of the Socialist Party is also Vice- President of the Regional Council of Ile- de -France, in charge of tourism, leisure and sport. Since 2011, officiates her party colleague Nathalie Pierre.

Economy

The place is famous for its deposits of freshwater quartz, which was used as a " Frenchman " under the millstones for the highest qualities of flour.
