Villarimboud

La Folliaz is a municipality in the district of the canton of Fribourg Glane in Switzerland. The municipality was created on 1 January 2005 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Villarimboud and Lussy (FR). Because the range between the two villages community Villaz -Saint -Pierre did not participate in the merger that created the rare constellation that La Folliaz consists of two non-contiguous parts of the municipality.

Geography

La Folliaz is about 5 km northeast of the district main town Romont (air line). The municipality extends to the Molasseplateau the Fribourg Mittelland, west of the Valley of the Glane.

The area of ​​9.9 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen of Fribourg Mittelland. The community part of Villarimboud ranges from Glane to the northwest of the amount of Villarimboud and Le Châtelet up in the catchment area of ​​Arbogne. The community part of Lussy extends from the wide Talniederung the Glane northeast of Romont on the north slope adjacent to the vast forests in the headwaters of the Au Bois Arbogne. Neighboring communities of La Folliaz are Chatonnaye, Torny, La Brillaz, Chénens, Villorsonnens, Villaz -Saint -Pierre and Romont in the canton of Fribourg and Villarzel in the canton of Vaud.

Population

With 899 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) La Folliaz one of the smaller municipalities of the canton of Fribourg. Of the 96.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.2 % and 0.5 % speak English (as of 2000). The population of La Folliaz amounted in 1900 to 771 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 20th century, the population number to 1930 ( 817 inhabitants) slowly before been a decrease by almost 30 % to 584 people by strong emigration until 1970. Since then, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

La Folliaz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and agriculture have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Romont and Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, yet is within easy reach of the main road from Freiburg to Romont. Although the railway line from Lausanne to Freiburg via Romont crosses the municipality of La Folliaz, but it has no stop. History

Since the Middle Ages the regions of La Folliaz were under the protection of the House of Savoy. When the Bernese 1536 Vaud conquered the villages came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Romont were allocated. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) were among Lussy and Villarimboud during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Romont and were incorporated in 1848 in the District Glane.

As part of the municipal mergers of the canton of Fribourg, a merger of three villages Lussy, Villarimboud and Villaz -Saint -Pierre was originally provided. Since the residents of Villaz -Saint -Pierre, however, objected to a merger, only the previously independent municipalities Lussy (FR) and Villarimboud were merged to form the new municipality of La Folliaz on 1 January 2005. These towns had no prior common border, which is why La Folliaz today consists of two parts of the municipality.
