History

Inside is a contemporary report on the construction of the church, a statue of Mary from the 17th century and a naive paintings from the 18th century. The church is the oldest monument of the canton and is since 1959 under monument protection. Opposite the church is a small chapel ( chapelle des pénitents ) from the 17th century, which houses several religious works of art. In the neighboring hamlet of Les Hières lying on the sun terraces north of La Grave in the municipality, there is a Romanesque church from the 12th century.

At the beginning of the French Revolution (1790), the municipality was first associated with the Isere department in the wake of the new division of France in Departments, La Grave is both hydrographic and economically associated with the location west of the Lautaret Pass. However, La Grave wanted to be connected to the Hautes -Alpes, likely to come in the hope to benefit from the favorable tax system of Briançon. When the National Assembly abolished this tax privilege then, it was too late to call for an integration into the Isere department.
