La Haye-Pesnel

La Haye- Pesnel is a commune with 1362 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region. It belongs to the community association Pays Hayland.

Geography

La Haye- Pesnel is located 78 kilometers northeast of Rennes, 42 kilometers southwest of Saint- Lô, 15 kilometers southeast of Granville, and about as far from the coast. The rivers Airou and Thar flow through the municipality. Neighboring communities of La Haye- Pesnel are Hocquigny the northwest, Le Tanu in the east, Champcervon in the south and La Lucerne - d'Outremer in the southwest. The municipality covers 629 hectares, the average height is 98 meters above sea level, the Mairie stands at a height of 95 meters.

History

The Normans had a fortified camp in La Haye- Pesnel during the invasion of Normandy. In the Middle Ages the town was a fief of the Pesnel family.

Since 1980, there is a school and community partnership with Pottmes in Bavaria.

Culture and sights

La Haye- Pesnel is nationally represented with a flower in the Conseil des villes et villages fleuris ( National Council of flowery towns and villages ). The " flowers " are awarded as part of a regional competition, a maximum of three flowers can be achieved.

In a bell of 1793 revolutionary slogans are engraved. It was cast by bell founders Sulpice Jourdan from two older bells. The bell is classified as a monument historique ( historic monument ').

The Church of Sainte -Marie -Madeleine dates from the 19th century. In the church there are two also listed confessionals, which were produced in 1691 and possibly originate from Brittany.
