La Independencia is a municipality in the southeast of the Mexican state of Chiapas. The name of this place comes from Spanish and means " independence ".

This municipality has about 41,000 inhabitants and an area of 516.1 km ². Administrative seat is the same La Independencia, the biggest places of Municipalities, however, are El Triunfo and Venustiano Carranza.

The municipality of La Independencia borders the Municipalities Las Margaritas, La Trinitaria and Comitán de Domínguez.
