La Marre

La Marre is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Marre is at 530 m above sea level. M., about 13 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in the central part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), between the valleys of erosion seille in the west and the Côte de l' Today in the East.

The area of ​​10.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The entire area is occupied by the level of the plateau Caledonia, the average at 530 m above sea level. M. is and is passed partly of arable and meadow land, partly by forest. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Neighboring communities of La Marre are Ladoye -sur- seille and Fay -en- Montagne in the north, Bonnefontaine in the east, Mirebel and Granges -sur -Baume in the south and Nevy -sur -Seille and Blois -sur -Seille in the West.

History

The municipality of La Marre was already inhabited in prehistoric times. The place name derives from the old French word mare ( Moor ) ago, because the first houses of the village clustered around a small bog. In the Middle Ages La Marre belonged to the rule of Mirebel. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

The present village church of Sainte -Trinité in 1815 built on the site of a former chapel.

Population

With 326 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Marre is one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 490 persons were still counted ), a population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Marre was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including wood processing and electro-mechanics. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Poligny after Mirebel. Further road links exist with Fay -en- Montagne, Bonnefontaine, Baume- les -Messieurs and Crançot.
