La Matanza de Acentejo

La Matanza de Acentejo is a municipality on the northern coast of Tenerife, with 8944 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) and an area of 14.11 km ². Neighboring municipalities are Sauzal in the northeast, southeast and Candelaria La Victoria de Acentejo in the southwest.

La Matanza de Acentejo is connected to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Los Rodeos airport on the northern motorway TF-5. La Matanza de Acentejo is located west-southwest of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and northeast of Arona.

The Acentejo is a balcony-like nevertheless strongly inclined region ( difference in altitude of 1,500 meters ) between the Teide massif and the rocky coast which slopes up to 300 m steeply to the Atlantic. The area is very fertile and well supplied with water, so here thrives lush vegetation. Thus, agriculture is also the main source of income. Among other things, bananas and wine are grown. Since the bathing facilities on the cliff are rare and difficult to reach, tourism is still very individual.
