La Mesa (Spanish: the table ) is a city in San Diego County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 54,500 inhabitants ( 2004). The metropolitan area has a size of 24.1 km ² and a population density of 2261 persons per km ². La Mesa is located off Interstate 8 and the California State Routes La Mesa was founded in 94 and 125 in 1869 and is officially listed as a town since 1912.
