La Neuvelle -lès- Scey is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Neuvelle -lès- Scey situated at an altitude of 302 m above sea level, 4 km north- west of Scey -sur -Saône -et -Saint -Albin and approximately 19 km west-northwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The former road line village stretches in the central part of the department, in the gently undulating landscape on the plateau west of the Saône, at the northern edge of the Bois du Prince de Bauffremont.

The area of ​​6.46 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the region of the plateau west of the Saônetals. The central part of the area is occupied by a wide opening, which gradually descends to the southeast to the valley of the Saône. It is on average 280 m and is used mainly for agricultural purposes. Is flanked by wooded hills this trough: in the east of the Bois de Scey, in the north of Grand Bois ( to 340 m), in the west of Les Epoisses and southwest from the ridge of the Bois du Prince de Bauffremont. With 345 m find the highest mountains of La Neuvelle -lès- Scey is achieved. The area consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper and middle Jurassic period. History

Remains of Gallo- Roman times and a burial ground from the Merovingian time point to a long history of settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages La Neuvelle -lès- Scey belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the Lords of Scey. Together with the Franche- Comté reached La Neuvelle with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today, La Neuvelle -lès- Scey Member of the comprehensive 22 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Combes.

Attractions

La Neuvelle -lès- Scey has a small chapel, which was built in the 19th century. The village is characterized by numerous houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, showing the traditional style of the Haute -Saône. The circular fountain dates from 1935.

Population

With 172 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Neuvelle -lès- Scey is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 301 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Neuvelle -lès- Scey was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. The place is known for its Christmas tree plantations. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road N19, which runs from Vesoul to Langres. Further road links exist with Scey -sur -Saône and Arbecey.
