La Oreja de Van Gogh

La Oreja de Van Gogh (Spanish for The Ear of Van Gogh) is a Spanish pop band, which was founded in 1996 by young musicians from San Sebastian, who had met at the university.

Band History

The guitarist Pablo Benegas, bassist Álvaro Fuentes, keyboardist Xabi San Martín and drummer Haritz Garde played mostly alternative songs before Amaia Montero joined the band and guard replaced as a singer.

Their first album Dile al sol was published in 1998. It came to the top of the Spanish charts and was awarded the Premio Ondas del Año Artista al. After numerous tours, the band released two more albums El viaje de Copperpot and Lo que te conté mientras te hacias la dormida and two DVDs: La oreja de Van Gogh with material from their first two recordings and the live DVD Lo que te conté mientras te hacias la dormida, Gira 2003 '.

The songs are mostly about love, friendship and everything that occurs in the relationship between two people, and have so far been written largely by Amaia Montero in collaboration with Pablo Benegas and Xabi San Martín.

In April 2006 the band released their fourth album, Guapa. This reached # 1 on the Spanish album charts in the first week.

On 19 November 2007, the band announced on their official blog that the singer Amaia Montero will separate after 11 years of the group to start a solo career. As a new singer was on 14 July 2008 at the Casa de América in Madrid Leire Martínez, a finalist in the Spanish version of the talent show X Factor, presented. The first album in the new lineup appeared on 2 September 2008 in the trade. The first single with singer Leire Martínez called El último vals.
