La Palmyre Zoo

The Zoo de la Palmyre is a zoological garden near Royan on the French Atlantic coast. The zoo is over 14 acres in size and with almost 800,000 visitors per year, the most visited zoo in France.

The Zoo de la Palmyre houses more than 1,600 animals, including many endangered species such as the Siberian tiger, the Bali starling, the scimitar-horned oryx and two white rhinos. In addition, the Zoo for its many species of monkeys are known.

The zoo was opened by Claude Caillé 1966. The zoo has received numerous awards and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, as well as their European counterpart EAZA.
