The district is geographically divided by the train; she calls herself ' Metropolitano ' - formerly 'San Martín '. The larger and more well-known part of the barrio La Paternal lies between this train line and the ' Avenida San Martín '.

La Isla

The smaller and lesser-known part of the district is informally called La Isla (the Island ). This name is due to the isolated location: La Isla is limited by two different train routes as well as on the other two sides by the Cemetery Chacarita and the agricultural faculty ( Agronomía ) of the University of Buenos Aires ( UBA).

La Isla is therefore remained rather untouched by the usual big-city stress, noise, air pollution and petty crime. Many porteños call this area, therefore, than the original, the typical Barrio, because it is so, as was known from earlier than was going on social and family life relaxed and mostly on the road, and delinquent failures through mutual social control in boundaries were maintained.
