La Presse (French newspaper)

The French newspaper La Presse was founded on June 16, 1836 by Émile de Girardin with a conservative orientation.

La Presse and Le Siècle be regarded as the first industrially produced newspapers in France. While the contemporary newspapers were supported by a solid subscriber base and close links with political parties, La Presse was driven mainly sold on the street. Girardin wanted to support the government, but without bind to specific cabinets. The price of annual subscriptions amounted to 40 francs, about half the price of other newspaper and was the first cheap newspaper in France.

The show was set in 1928.

Staff and guest authors

Among the authors who were published in La presse Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas, Frederic Soulie, Eugène Scribe Théophile Gautier, Gérard de Nerval, and under the pseudonym Vicomte de Launay Geradins wife Delphine de Girardin.

In preprint was serialized several novels of Honoré de Balzac, the autobiographies of François -René de Chateaubriand, Alphonse de Lamartine and George Sand.
