La Ricamarie

La Rica Marie is a commune in the canton of Le Chambon- Feugerolles in the arrondissement of Saint -Etienne in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes. It is located about 55 kilometers southwest of Lyon in the Massif Central. The 7973 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) of the city identify themselves as Ricamandoises. The municipality is situated on the river Ondaine, a small tributary of the upper Loire. La Rica Marie is part of the Communauté d' agglomà Saint- Étienne Métropole.

History

Maybe was located in present-day municipality an ancient oppidum. Archaeological investigations have leftovers, which would be assigned a settlement spawned.

Until the 15th century, the name of the place was Tiregarne, then La Rycamarie sat and today's La Rica by Marie ( as a rich mine, it pointed to the abundant coal mines here to ). 1843 the city from the neighboring village of Le Chambon- current Feugerolles was separated and independent community.
