La Riche

La Riche, formerly La Varenne de la Riche, then Sainte -Anne is a commune with 10,089 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Indre- et- Loire in the Centre region; it belongs to Arrondissement Tours and Ballan- Mire Canton.

The name comes from the former parish of Notre -Dame -la- Riche back, which was divided by the construction of a city wall into two parts: the core was incorporated to Tours, while located outside the city boundary area was raised in 1793 as a separate parish. La Riche is the site of the castle Plessis- lès -Tours ( Montils -lez -Tours ).

History

In 1092 the chapter of Saint -Martin of Tours Cathedral founded on the present municipality of La Riche the priory of Saint -Cosme.

King Louis XI. made the palace Plessis- lès -Tours for 1463/68 was his favorite residence. In April 1483 he left by Pope Sixtus IV Francis of Paola, the founder of the Order of the least brothers ( Paulaner Order), he had a reputation to accomplish miraculous healings, call to his sick bed. As a confessor was this the king at up to hour of his death on August 30, 1483 in the castle of Plessis.

Francis of Paola founded with the help of Charles VIII, son of Louis XI. in 1489 at Plessis- les -Tours, a new community of the least brothers, " Couvent des Minimes Grands du Plessis ," in which the pious Founder passed away on April 2, 1507 and was buried.

Closely related to Plessis- les- Tour is the name of the writer Pierre de Ronsard, who was from 1565 for the next 20 years, until his death Kommendatarprior of Saint -Cosme. Due to the benefice of his office financially independent, here he could devote himself undisturbed his writings and the publication of his complete works.

  • The remains of the monastery of the least brothers or Couvent des Minimes Grands du Plessis to the grave Francis of Paola in a neo-Gothic chapel adjoining (1877, unfinished)
  • The remains of the priory of Saint-Come, in Ronsard had: (. 12./15 century) ruins of the church, the house of the Priors (. 15./17 century), refectory (12th century ), Museum ( art of Romanesque and the Renaissance )
  • The chapel of the Priory of Sainte -Anne ( 16th century)
  • The mansions Manoir de La Rabaterie ( 15th/16th c. ) and Manoir of the pavilion (17th century)
