La Rixouse

La Rixouse is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Rixouse is located at 732 m above sea level. M., about nine kilometers north of the town of Saint- Claude ( a straight line ). The village is located in the Jura, a scenic location on a terrace on a sunny hillside about 260 m above the deep river of Bienne, on the south side of the Bois de Ban.

The area of ​​12.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southern boundary runs along the Bienne, which flows here in an erosion valley parallel to the Jura chain to the southwest. From the river, the municipality's area extends northward through a wooded and partly traversed by bands of rock slope on the terrace of La Rixouse. This is followed in the northern ridge of the Bois de Ban and the Bois de la Joux at ( 962 m above sea level. M. ).

The landscape in the northern part of the municipality has only small differences in relief and is characterized by parallel ridges and terrain depressions, which are oriented in the southwest-northeast, according to the strike of the Jura Mountains in the area. In structural geological terms, they represent a series of anticlines and synclines, which consist predominantly of rock strata of the upper Jurassic period. North of the Bois du Ban follow the marshy valley of Les Prés, an elongated crest and the valley of the brook Loutre, which seeps here in a bog. The northwestern boundary is the ridge of the Bois de la Joux Devant, on 996 m above sea level. M. the highest peak of La Rixouse is achieved. The area of La Rixouse is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

At La Rixouse includes the hamlet of Les Prés de la Rixouse (880 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau north of the Bois de Ban and various individual courtyards. Neighboring communities of La Chaux- Rixouse are des- Prés in the north, Villard -sur -Bienne and Longchaumois in the east, Saint -Claude in the south and Leschères in the West.

History

Presumably La Rixouse was founded in the 5th century by the monks of the monastery of Saint- Lupicin. The village grew during the Middle Ages to the center of a large parish. It belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche- Comté reached La Rixouse with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The present village church was built in the 17th century, the created in the 16th century late Gothic bell tower of the previous building was included.

Population

With 200 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) La Rixouse one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 409 persons were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the beginning of the 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

La Rixouse was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village.
