La Sonora Ponceña

La Sonora Ponceña is a salsa group from Puerto Rico. She was among the most popular groups in Latin America.

Career

La Sonora Ponceña was founded in 1954 by Enrique Lucca Caraballo and Antonio Santaella in Puerto Rico. In 1960 they released their first single in New York, and in 1968 the group by the pianist Enrique " Papo " Lucca Quiñonez ( born April 10, 1946 in Yauco, Puerto Rico) was added. Their first album " Hachero Pa ' Un Palo " contained the hit " Amor Verdadero ", which was made famous by the band. The group Sonora Matancera and their percussion deposits were the group La Sonora Ponceña in the early years as a model. As early as 1960 had La Sonora Ponceña numerous appearances at the Manhattan Center, and Puerto Rico Theater. They played at the time mainly guarachas and boleros. In 1968, she took advantage of the first time the new technology LPs record. New singers like Yolanda Rivera and Toñito Ledee coined the new sound of the Sonoran Ponceña. " Hachero Pa ' Un Palo " and " Fuego en el 23" were great musical successes. Overall, they took the Inca label on 30 albums. In 1979, she recorded the album La Ceiba with Celia Cruz. 1980, when the wave of Salsa Romantica began, was La Sonora Ponceña at the height of her career and became synonymous with the salsa.
