La Storta

La Storta is a fraction in the northwest of the city of Rome and beyond, the term of the 51 zone of the Agro Romano. The zone covers approximately 46.7 km ² and has about 20,000 inhabitants.

Location and transport

La Storta (engl. " The Leaning " ) is located about 20 kilometers outside the Roman city on the Via Cassia. The town's name probably derives from the old Roman road that possibly had a distinctive curve here. In the Middle Ages, the Via Francigena pilgrimage route passed through here. In addition to the modern Via Cassia today is the Roman highway A90 of importance. La Storta has a station on the railway line Rome - Viterbo, which is operated in the transport of the FR3 line of ferrovia Regional Lazio.

Cathedral

In La Storta is the episcopal church of the diocese of Porto- Santa Rufina.

Marine Headquarters

About three kilometers southwest of the station of La Storta located in Santa Rosa ( 41 ° 59 '2 " N, 12 ° 21 ' 48" O41.98388888888912.363333333333 ) the headquarters of the Italian Navy (Quartier Generale della Marina) with the Fleet Command ( Comando in Capo della Squadra Navale, CINCNAV ) and a large telecommunications center ( Maritele Roma). There are underground bunkers, but these are no longer in constant use since the opening of a new command center.
