Location, climate and soil

The vineyard of La Tache is on a slightly rising in the eastern slope 255-300 m above sea level. To the north it borders the vineyard La Grande Rue, and is just across this narrow vineyard of the famous Grand Crus of Romanée La Romanée -Conti and. East encounters the situation in part directly to the village of Vosne and on the other, a small vineyard pushes with the status of Bourgogne Villages between the village and La Tache. To the south is the Premier Cru Aux Malconsorts. The vineyard is made up of the districts of La Tache together (1.43 hectares) and Les Gaudichots ( 4.62 ha). La Tache is a monopoly situation of the Domaine de la Romanée -Conti.

The climate is associated with the Burgundian transitional climate, outweigh the continental influences over maritime. The mostly dry and hot summer, let the Pinot noir mature though, great vintages emerge only when there is no rain in the fall affects the reading. Due to the pure east facing the micro-climate is relatively cool but very sunny. Exactly located below the notch of the Combe de Concoeur, La Tache is being protected from nocturnal fall winds and late frosts.

The higher part of the vineyard rests on a Oolithsockel from the Bathonian. The underbody of the deeper part of the document is on Premeaux limestone. The brown, clayey - calcareous Rendzinaschicht of La Tache is significantly thinner in the upper part than in the lower. In the lowest range of the position fossiliferous marls Bajocian is open. The numerous limestone store the heat of the day and radiate it at night back to the vines from. They also provide good drainage.

Wine

The wine of La Tache is generally produced exclusively from Pinot noir. As another Pinot and Pinot Liébault Beurot are allowed. Theoretically, up to 15 % white grapes ( Chardonnay, Pinot gris and Pinot blanc) are used. The natural alcohol content must be at least 11.5 percent by volume. The Chaptalisation is - as everywhere in Burgundy - allowed. In the case of an artificial enrichment by dry sugar a maximum alcohol content of 14.5 ° is fixed. The base yield is 35 hectoliters per hectare per year, may be exceeded by a maximum of 20%. From 2003 to 2007 151 hectoliters were produced by the entire vineyard in the middle. This equals 25.1 hl / ha. This provides this Grand Cru good 19,630 bottles per year.

In 2005, the average age of the vines was 54 years. The last plantings dated at this time of the years 1998, 2001 and 2005. From this vineyard in 1947 and 1948 appropriate poles were removed for planting able Romanée- Conti in years.

In the descriptions of red wine by wine connoisseurs a special fullness of flavor, finesse and complexity as well as durability is awarded.

History

The history of the Grand Cru of Vosne -Romanée is inextricably linked to the abbeys of Citeaux and Saint- Vivant in today Curtil -Vergy. The monasteries operated until 1791 viticulture. The reputation of La Tache is among other things a list of the wine cellar of Louis XVI. The wine Clos de Vougeot operates there next, Richebourg, Chambertin and Romanée -Saint- Vivant. In France the Revolution, the possessions of the Church were declared national property and auctioned. La Tache was acquired by the wine merchant Nicolas- Joseph Marey (1760-1818) from Nuits -Saint -Georges. He was married to the daughter of the mathematician Gaspard Monge and temporary Minister of Beaune, therefore, this branch of the family was named Marey - Monge. Marey paid for the former 1.5 -acre location 900 livres per Ouvrée ( a Ouvrée = 0.428 hectares). The purchase agreement was the note that these are the best wines of Vosne the wines of La Tache. Thus, the price for a Ouvrée was significantly higher than the Chambertin ( 777 livres ), Clos de Tart (415 livres ) or at the Clos de Vougeot (616 livres ).

In 1815, Louis Liger -Belair acquired along with his son Louis -Charles 40 hectares of vineyards in Vosne and surrounding area, including the vineyard of La Tache. After the lands were shrunk by the year 1933 only 24 acres, the family is the location of La Tache sold because of inheritance disputes at the Domaine de la Romanée -Conti.

The status of a Grand Cru La Tache was given the position on 11 September 1936. Here (1.43 acres ) were to the actual district La Tache slammed a 4.62 -acre portion of the district Les Gaudichots. The Decree on the Controlled Appellation simultaneously detected the neighboring Grand Cru Romanée -Saint- Vivant, Richebourg, Romanée- Conti and La Romanée.
