La Transjurassienne

The Transjurassienne is a great cross-country skiing event in the French Jura (where a part of the route on Swiss territory leads ). It is part of Worldloppet series and the FIS Marathon Cup. At 76 km, it is the second- longest cross-country ski race in the world after the Swedish Vasaloppet (90 km). The number of participants is usually at more than 4,000 cross-country skiers.

The launch will take place on the second weekend in February in Lamoura (1120 m above sea level. M. ) instead of, target is Mouthe (930 m above sea level. M. ). Participants run through the landscapes of the departments of Jura and Doubs and the Swiss Vallée de Joux.

The traditional 76 km long stretch between the villages Lamoura, Prémanon, Les Rousses, Bois- d'Amont Le Brassus (Switzerland), Belle Fontaine, Chapelle -des- Bois, Le Pré Poncet, Chaux -Neuve ( regularly hosts a World Cup Nordic combination ), Petite- Chaux and Mouthe.

The Transjurassienne was then run in the first classic from 1986 in free style. From 1998 came gradually longer distances added:

  • 54 km women's race in free style ( on Sunday )
  • 50 km run in the classic style: the Transju'Classic (since 2006, Saturday )
  • 25 km run in free style: the Mini Trans ( on Saturday )

History

The race was first launched in 1979 under the name " Progressime du Jura " of two journalists of the daily newspaper Le Progres, Jacky Mandrillon and Georges Berthet, organized. This first edition should have taken place in the much more difficult direction of Mouthe after Lamoura, but dropped out due to lack of snow.

The record attendance is 4,450 with cross-country skiers (previous record: 1985 with 3725, 2005 with 4,365 participants ) since 2006. The event was a total of five times due to lack of snow canceled. 1979, 1990, 1993, 2001 and 2007 In 2001, the Trans'Roller ( roller skis and inline skating race ), 2007 Transju'Trail ( mountain bike race ) was launched.
