La Vega is a province in the center of the Dominican Republic. In 1992, the southeastern part of the province was separated and has since become the independent province Monsignor Nouel.

Geography

The province of La Vega is determined by the Cordillera Central, with its high valleys in Jarabacoa and Constanza and the fertile plains of Cibao.

Economy

Agriculture dominates the economy of the province. Especially in the high valleys around Jarabacoa and Constanza, where prevail all year round cooler temperatures than in the rest of the country, potatoes, cabbage, strawberries, apples and coffee are grown.

The mountains of the Cordillera Central also attracts more and more tourists and locals. Especially hiking on foot or on horseback, wild water sports such as rafting and canyoning are also an attraction of the region.
