La Vergenne

La Vergenne is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

La Vergenne situated at an altitude of 282 m above sea level, 10 km north-east of Villers Exel and about 28 km east of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village extends into the Talniederung of Rognon, on the western edge of the heights of the Bois de Granges.

The area of ​​2.95 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside between the Ognon Valley and the Bois de Granges. The area is crossed by the Talniederung of Rognon, which provides for drainage southwest to Scey. The Rognon here takes on several short tributaries that are dammed in part to ponds. In the southeast, the area extends to the edge of the heights of the Bois de Saint -Georges. To the northwest extends the communal land on the plateau, the average is 300 m and its subsoil consists mainly of limestone. It is partly passed with arable and meadow land, partly by forest. On the west is at 322 m reaches the highest point of La Vergenne.

Neighboring communities of La Vergenne are Vouhenans in the north, Moffans -et- Vacheresse in the east, Athesans - ETROITEFONTAINE in the south and Gouhenans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages La Vergenne belonged to the rule Gouhenans under the Barony Granges. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since 2000, La Vergenne is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel.

Attractions

The Chapel of Saint- Désiré was built in 1705 and houses a statue of Saint Martin in the 17th century. In some local houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved in typical Haute -Saône style.

Population

With 121 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) La Vergenne one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 150 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

La Vergenne was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Villersexel to Ronchamp. Further road links exist with Gouhenans and Faymont.
