Láadan

Laadan is a constructed language that was developed in 1982 by the science fiction writer Suzette Haden Elgin.

History

Elgin had created the language to deal with the question of whether or to what extent the Sapir -Whorf hypothesis is valid. Elgin believed many languages of the world ( including the Indo-European languages ) are intended to express the ideas of men as accurately as possible. As a result, women could not express their ideas correctly. Laadan was an attempt to construct a suitable language for women.

Tonal language

Among the constructed languages Laadan occupies a special position, because it is a tonal language. The language has two (or four, depending on interpretation) sounds, namely a high tone (eg " ó " ) and an unmarked low tone (eg " o "). If you pull double vowels into consideration, there is also a rising tone ( "oo " ) and a falling tone ( "oo ").
