Labastide-de-Virac

Labastide -de -Virac is a municipality with 240 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in France, it is located in the south of Ardeche in the Rhone -Alpes.

The village is situated in the tourist region west of the river Ardèche, near the border with the department of Gard. The community Labastide -de -Virac has an area of ​​23.32 km ², the population density is 9.0 inhabitants per km ².

The medieval castle is a listed building and can be visited. It was built in the late 14th century and was during the wars of religion refuge for the Count of Rohan, a Huguenot leader. It is now a museum where you can admire the production of natural silk old furniture, clothes, tools, and as a special feature. In display cases are living silkworms in various stages until pupation. Also shown are the old equipment for the processing of silk.
