Labrang Monastery

The Labrang Monastery ( short form of Labrang Trashi khyil ) is 2,800 meters high in a river valley of the circle in Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous province of Gansu of the People's Republic of China. It is located in the transition area between the settlements of Tibetans and Hui. Built in 1709, it became a hub for trade between Central China, Tibet and the Silk Road. It is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

Description

On the approximately 86 -acre site of the built in Tibetan style monastery are 48 temple halls of different sizes as well as more than 500 Buddhist chapels and monastic cells. As most imposing, most magnificent and largest building of the monastery is of some, the six-storey Maitreya Hall, Ch viewed Jinwadian ( Gold Brick Hall ), where the facilities of the oldest, but very winding acting buildings from the founding period can be regarded as the most important. The Maitreya Hall houses a 7.4 meter (with base 10 m) tall statue of the future Buddha. My top floor is a palatial square pavilion whose roof is made of gilded copper tiles and is decorated with gilded copper lions.

The historical tradition According lived here in the heyday of the Monastery 3000 monks. Today again the Labrang Monastery is considered an important intellectual center in northwest China and as a higher educational institution of Tibetan Buddhism. Meanwhile, here live the statistics again after more than 2000 monks. However, since are not registered and thus not statistically captures the young novices who are sent to her parents' decision to the monastery, the actual number is again significantly higher and is likely to have reached about the former number.

The monastery has six faculties study, in which the monks can study Buddhist theory, logic, astronomy, mathematics, medicine, calligraphy, phonology, dance, painting and sculpture.

Since 1982, the monastery is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 2-43 ).
