Lac de Bret

The Lac de Bret is a 0.36 km ² large lake and drinking water storage in the Swiss canton of Vaud. It is located at 674 m above sea level. M. in the Central Plateau north of Lake Geneva, in a valley between the altitudes of Tour de Gourze in the west and Mont Pelerin in the east, in the municipality of Puidoux. The Lac de Bret 1529 is first mentioned under the name Bryt. 1590 appeared the name Brel and 1650 Bruict. The name could come from the Old High German word Brestan ( break, burst ) may be derived.

The extending towards south-southwest - North lake is about 1.5 km long and up to 400 m wide and has a shoreline length of 4.1 km; the maximum water depth is 13 m. Its catchment area is only 2 km ² in size. Originally belonged to the Lac de Bret for the catchment area of the stream forestay, which flows into the lake at Rivaz. Just north of the lake shore is the main European watershed between the basins of the Rhone and Rhine. During prolonged periods of cold weather, the Lac de Bret freezes completely in winter.

The natural Lac de Bret was easily dammed, a mound with dam secured the southern shore of the lake. He serves several varieties of Lavaux and the City of Lausanne as a drinking water reservoir. To the east of the lake closes at the Golf de Lavaux.
