Lac de Capitellu

The Lac de Capitello ( Corsican Lavu di Capitellu ) is a lake in Corsica, in the Haute- Corse, located in the high valley Restonica about 15 km from Corte.

Geography

The lake is close ( about an hour steep climb ) of the Lac de Melo.

The Lac de Capitello is the deepest natural lake in Corsica ( max. 42 m) and the fourth largest in terms of area (5.5 ha). It is surrounded by mountain peaks with an altitude to 2230 m and frozen for more than eight months a year.

In the high season we up to 1200 walkers visited the lake per day, which is a problem for the delicate ecosystem.
