Lac la Ronge

Lac la Ronge is a lake in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The lake is of glacial origin. By construction of a dam, the water level and outflow of the lake is regulated. The water surface is 1333 km ², including islands, there are 1413 km ².

The lake is located about 250 km north of Prince Albert on the edge of the Canadian Shield. La Ronge, Air Ronge and the Lac La Ronge First Nation located on the western shore of the lake.

The lake is a popular destination. Recreational activities such as fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking and camping are possible here. The Lac La Ronge Provincial Park stretches along the eastern shore of the lake.

Lac la Ronge Dam The dam was built in 1966 at the Rapid River with the aim to regulate the water level of the lake. The dam has a height of 3.1 m and includes four storage doors. The dam was rebuilt in 2007 and it was a fish ladder created. The Highway 2 passes through the lake on its western shore and ends at La Ronge. Rapid River flows through the eastern Iskwatikan Lake and passes through the Nistowiak Falls to open approximately 15 km in the Churchill River.

The following species of fish in the lake: Walleye, Canadian walleye, American perch, pike, American char, Heringsmaräne, Coregonus, burbot, the Redhorse Catostomus Catostomus commersonii and catostomus.
