Lacedonia

Lacedonia is a small town with 2426 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the southern Italian province of Avellino in the Campania region. It is part of the Comunità Montana Alta Irpinia Bergkomune. It lies about halfway between Naples and Bari.

In 1881 the city had 5,822 inhabitants. In the village is an ancient cathedral on the site of a Roman Dioskurentempels and a beautiful bell tower. It is close to quarries.

Lacedonia was bishop of the diocese Lacedonia that was summarized on 30 September 1986 with the Diocese of Ariano the present diocese of Ariano Irpino - Lacedonia.
