Laconia is a city in the United States and the administrative seat of the district of Belknap County, New Hampshire.

Geography

At Laconia addition to the core city include also the places Lakeport and Weirs Beach. In the southwest, the city is from Lake Winnisquam and in the north east of Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New Hampshire, is limited. Laconia is in the catchment area of the River Winnipesaukee River, which flows into the Merrimack River. The highest point in the city is a 293 m high hill southwest of the hamlet of Weirs Beach in the north of the city.

Traffic

The town lies on the railway line Concord - Wells River, which was opened in 1848 and was operated until 1965 in passenger transport. Since the 1970s, only drive tourism trains on the route. A branch line to Alton Bay branched 1890-1942 in the district of Lakeport by this route from. From 1882 to 1925, the tram from the center of Laconia drove Laconias by Lakeport and from 1899 on to Weirs Beach.

By Laconia carries U.S. Highway 3 ( Daniel Webster Highway). A direct connection to the Interstate Highway network does not exist, but results Interstate 93, about ten kilometers to the west past the city. The airport of the city, Laconia Airport, is at present operated in regular service. The nearest airport with scheduled flights is in Manchester.
