Lacoste (Vaucluse)

Lacoste is a municipality in the department of Vaucluse in southern France ( in Provence ) with 408 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and an area of 10.6 km ².

Geography

The place is about 40 kilometers in a straight line south-east of Avignon and 60 km north of Marseille or 40 km north of Aix -en- Provence. The small town of Apt is located about 12 kilometers in a straight line to the northeast. Lacoste is located on a mountain slope at an altitude of about 320 meters above sea level on the northern edge of the Luberon. The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park. Nearby are the famous tourist spots Roussillon and Gordes.

History

La Coste as feud passed in 1627 by the marriage of Diane de Simiane, Dame de la Coste with Jean -Baptiste de Sade in the possession of the house Sade.

Coat of arms

Description: Gold and red gevierten coat of arms is in the first and fourth field a blue crenellated tower and the second and third a golden achtspitziger star. A white dove is toppled on and over the crossing on a black cross with twelve kugelbesteckten arm tips.

Attractions

Above the village are the ruins of the castle of the same Lacoste. This ruined castle is built with the support of the French fashion designer Pierre Cardin again for several years and can be visited free of charge (as of September 2006). She is known nationwide, as it was in the 18th century the residence of Donatien -Alphonse- François de Sade.

From just a few kilometers further east on a hilltop Bonnieux offers a beautiful view of Lacoste.
