Lacq

Lacq is a commune with 707 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques and the Aquitaine region.

Geography

Lacq is located in the Pyrenees foothills. Through the municipal area, the flow Géüle and Lagle, both open into the Gave de Pau.

  • Arthez's -de- Bearn and Urdès in the North
  • Mont in the West
  • Abidos and Os Marsillon in the south and
  • Artix and Serres -Sainte -Marie in the east.

History

The municipality was created from the merger of the former municipalities of Lacq and Audéjos who belonged to two different cantons. Belonging to the former cantons exists today.

Economy

  • The substrate under lacq contains sulfur in the form of gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H2S), is prepared from the oxidation of crystalline sulfur, which can then be transported and further processed.
  • In Lacq is France's largest natural gas field.
  • In the first French Lacq demonstration plant will be constructed in which the entire chain of the oxyfuel process, to be tested by the oxygen production to the storage of carbon dioxide in a former gas reservoir at an industrial scale. The plant is on stream in 2008. Carbon dioxide from the flue gases from a plant in Lacq is isolated and then pumped to 4,500 meters depth. Geological investigations will determine whether the site is suitable for long -term CO2 storage.

Community partnership

Lacq maintains a partnership with the Spanish community of San Quintin de Mediona in Catalonia.
