LaDonna Smith

LaDonna Smith ( born March 2, 1951) is an American musician, free improvisation music. She plays violin, viola and piano.

Smith studied classical music and lives in Birmingham (Alabama ), where she also taught. She founded with guitarist Davey Williams 1974 Trans duo, founded in 1976 a label TransMuseq with Williams and was one of the editors of the journal The Improvisor ( as of 1981 ), the editor she is. She released many recordings on their label, toured in Europe and to Russia, China and Japan with Williams. LaDonna Smith organized the Birmingham Improv Festival in Birmingham.

LaDonna Smith played with many Improvisatonsmusikern like Peter Brötzmann, Anne LeBaron, Derek Bailey, Eugene Chadbourne, Andrea Centazzo, John Zorn and the Russian guitarist Misha Feigin.

She is also a visual artist (drawings, ceramics).
