Lady Grey (tea)

Lady Grey is the name of a tea mixture that consists of black tea. It is flavored with orange and lemon peel and slightly flavored with the oil of bergamot fruit. This is a variation of Earl Grey.

History

The type of tea was named after Mary Elizabeth Grey, wife of Prime Minister Charles Grey (1830-1834), who was already named after the Earl Grey.

The origins of Lady Grey to the early 1990s when British tea maker Twinings. This created this blend for tea drinkers, where Earl Grey was too strong in flavor. The initial mixture contains - in addition to black tea - cups of bitter oranges (3%), lemon (3%) and bergamot oil. As jewelry drug, so filler which should give a more pleasing appearance of the blended tea by shape and color, the cornflower is used. Some tea manufacturers use lavender instead of bitter oranges. As is customary in the British tea culture, even Lady Grey is occasionally drunk with milk to soften the taste.
