Ladyfest

A Ladyfest is a label for art events, which are usually organized by women and transgendered people. You share the common goal of under-representation of women and girls within the music and art scene oppose.

The first Ladyfest took place in August 2000 in Olympia (Washington) instead, and inspired a participant in the following year for the first Girls Rock Camp. The following year, there were five such events, including one in Europe, Glasgow ( Scotland). Since then, the number of globally organized Ladyfests has increased annually. The first Ladyfest in Germany took place in 2003 in Hamburg.

The Ladyfest idea draws on subcultural elements from the Riot Grrrl movement and DIY approaches and develops them further; usually there are at multi-day event, a wide range of workshops, concerts, parties, readings, films, discussions and exhibitions with queer / feminist issues.
