Laem Chabang ( Thai แหลม ฉบัง ) is a major city in Thailand's Chonburi province. It is a port city on the Gulf of Thailand and is home to the largest port in Thailand.

The city of Laem Chabang has 73 520 inhabitants ( 2012).

Location

Laem Chabang ( เทศบาล นคร แหลม ฉบัง ) is administratively a city ( thesaban Nakhon ). It is located in the province ( Changwat ) Chonburi and extends over the district ( tambon) in the Bang Lamung district ( Amphoe ) Bang Lamung well as the districts Bueng, Surasak, Thung Sukhla and parts of Nong Kham of Si Racha. The port is located about 25 km north of Pattaya, south of the city of Chonburi.

The eastward to Trat running from Bangkok Sukhumvit Highway ( Thanon Sukhumvit ) also runs through Laem Chabang.

Economy and infrastructure

The 1991 finished deep-water port ( Panamax -capable) determines the economy of the city. He is the most important seaport of the country and with 5.73 million TEUs per year (as of 2011 ) ranked 23 among the busiest container port in the world ( one place behind Bremerhaven ). Many of the import and export goods of Thailand are moved here. In addition to the logistics services required for a port, and the wholesale and tourism is noteworthy. This Laem Chabang is marketed as a counterpoint to the bustling Pattaya.

Exxon Mobil has built an oil refinery here.

Two major infrastructure projects with a total value of 36 billion baht were approved in October 2007. It involves Railroads between Laem Chabang and Nakhon Ratchasima and Lat Krabang. In order for the east coast of the country is to be further developed, Laem Chabang to play a key role.
