Laetare Medal

The Laetare Medal is the oldest (since 1883) and most prestigious award, from the University of Notre Dame ( Indiana) annually to American Catholics Whose genius Has Ennobled the arts and sciences, illustrated the ideals of the Church, and enriched the heritage of humanity will be given.

Some of the most famous winners include William Rosecrans, John McCormack, Dorothy Day, Frederick D. Rossini, Walker Percy, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, Eunice Shriver, Sister Helen Prejean (1996 ), Martin Sheen.
