Lafnitz

Lafnitz is an Austrian municipality with 1402 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Styria, on the border to the Burgenland. The municipality is located in the judicial district Fürstenfeld and in the political district of Hartberg - Fürstenfeld.

Geography

Geographical Location

Lafnitz lies to the east of Styria Joglland. Politically, the community belongs to the district of Hartberg - Fürstenfeld, whose district capital Hartberg situated about ten kilometers east of it. The municipality is located on the eponymous river Lafnitz, a tributary of the Raab.

The Lafnitz Lafnitz forms south of the border between Styria and Burgenland. The municipal area stretches along the Haidwaldes, where the settlement is located just to the north and the south. The community in southern parts are drained by Lungitzbach.

Lafnitz consists of three local villages and towns of the same name: Lafnitz (956 inhabitants), Oberlungitz (216) and car rentals ( 260 ) ( inhabitants as of 2001).

Incorporations

On 1 January 1959, the independent communities Oberlungitz and Wagendorf were pooled for community Lungitztal, this was incorporated on January 1, 1969.

Neighboring communities

History

First traces of settlement of the municipality date back to the 4th millennium BC, when the East Styria was inhabited by the Lafnitztal. In Roman times, led by the current municipal area, a Roman road from Baden in the settlement area at Hart Mountain, crossed the river here.

Since Lafnitz same name as the river, on which it is located, the first mentions refer to the river. In the year 864 it is first mentioned in a German Ludwig issued by deed of gift. The referenced therein, " Good to the Lafnitz " could refer to the church today, as it is further clarified in a document from the year 1272 as near Rohrbach located.

The present village is finally Lafnitz first mentioned as Lavenz in a deed of Canons Vorau in 1184. The name has changed over the years about Laffnicz ( 1445 ), Laffnitz ( 1497 ) and Lafnicz (1506 ) for the notation used today, which occurs for the first time in 1527.

Due to the proximity to the border with Hungary, the village is often a victim of enemy raids. In the 15th to 18th century, it was mainly the Hungarians, Turks and kuruc that Lafnitz afflict heavily before attracted in 1805 Napoleon's troops through the country.

Traffic

Lafnitz is right on the well-developed in this area change road B 54 from Wiener Neustadt to Hartberg. It does not lead around by the local area, but in a long curve. The South A 2 motorway from Vienna to Graz is not far away and over the junction Pinkafeld (100 ) in about nine kilometers (for the community part Lafnitz ) or via the junction Hartberg ( 115) in about seven kilometers ( for the municipality parts Wagendorf and achieve Oberlungitz ).

Although the Therme train from Vienna to Fehring runs through the municipality, the breakpoint Lafnitz but is no longer served. The nearest train station is therefore Graf village about four kilometers away. Here are two hourly regional train connections.

Graz Airport and Flughafen Wien -Schwechat are each about 100 km away.

Education

All children are taught in elementary school Lafnitz since the school year 2008/ 09. Before that, it was also in Wagendorf an elementary school, which was, however, only led einklassig. Secondary schools are located in the village of Graf and in Hartberg.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms came into effect on 1 December 1998. Blazon (Coat of Arms description): " From green and red divided by a silver river, an abbot and lily stalk of silver crossed diagonally in the upper field, lower field diagonally right of reduced silver river. "
