The reservoir is the second largest lake in the province of Belluno in Veneto. Capital is Farra d' Alpago on the east side of the lake. The approximately 386 m above sea level on the eastern shore lake is uninhabited, at the southern end lies the small town of Santa Croce. The lake with its green water is especially popular with surfers. On the west bank the Strada Statale 51 di Alemagna goes along. Just a few miles south is the Lago Morto.
