Laishevo

Laischewo (Russian Лаишево; Tatar Лаеш / Layış ) is a small town in the Republic of Tatarstan (Russia) with 7735 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 60 km southeast of the Republic capital Kazan on the right bank of the Kama, which here forms together with the Volga, in which it flows near the Kuibyshev reservoir.

Laischewo is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The village was founded in 1557 and received a city charter in 1781 as Laischew as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ) the governorship, in 1796 of the government of Kazan.

1926 lost the place a city charter and was now called Laischewo. In 1950 he was again, however, the status of an urban-type settlement and on 9 September 2004, the new city law.

Culture and sights

In Laischewo a number of buildings from the 18th and 19th century has survived. These include the Holy Trinity Cathedral ( Троицкий собор / Troitsky Sobor ) of the former convent from 1888 to 1912, the St. Sophia Cathedral ( Софийский собор / Sofijski Sobor, 1767, rebuilt 1850), the poor house ( late 19th century ) and the High School of 1864.

Since 1910, there is an agricultural college. In 1997, a local history museum was opened.

In the surrounding villages a number of old village churches is obtained, in Derschawino (1715, rebuilt 1874), Jegorjewo (1769 ), Russkoje Nikolskoje (1848 ), Sokury (1895 ) and Smoldejarowo (1905 ), as well as a mosque from 1908 in the village Kirbi.

The area is Gavriil Derzhavin (1743-1816) connected to the youth of the eminent poet, whose family here had extensive lands and whose parents are buried in the cemetery of Jegorjewo.

Economy

Laischewo is the center of an agricultural region. In recent years, attempts to establish a regional recreation area in the industrial area on the banks of the Volga -free reservoir tourist infrastructure.
